CMS Friday Focus (9/20/13) from Superintendent Health Morrison - Vance Leadership Mentoring Program at Martin Middle School
"We’re also very proud of a new intra-school partnership between Vance High and James Martin Middle. Eleven students in the school’s Leadership class have made a commitment to mentor the Leadership class at James Martin and help in the completion of environmental justice projects the middle-schoolers are doing this year. Those projects include a campus beautification, Go-Green day, recycled-art competition and a shoebox drive of winter items for the homeless. The MGR organization, which works to empower youth and change communities, is also participating in the partnership. What a great learning opportunity for all the students involved!"

Vance HS Academy of Engineering Newsletter (October 2013) - Power Shift 2013
"The Environmental Justice Club (EJC) is organized by MGR Youth Empowerment, a non-profit organization that engages, motivates and empowers under-resourced youth to create positive community change through programming in the environment, the arts, and health. Students in the EJC participate in during and after-school programs that provide them with experiential and project based learning. This includes field trips, leadership trainings, and experience developing and organizing projects that educate their school and community about sustainable living. This year, 8 EJC leaders have been selected to attend Power Shift 2013, a youth-led climate change conference in Pittsburg, PA from October 18-20, 2013"
